Position Title: Country Food Access Assistant

Location: Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre, Iqaluit, Nunavut

Position Type: Part-time

Reports To: Country Food Access Coordinator 

Hourly rate: $25.00 an hour

CFC is seeking a part-time Country Food Access Coordinator for its facility in the heart of Iqaluit. In conformance with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants. Housing is not available.

QCFC is a registered charity that strives to strengthen health, belonging and food sovereignty in Iqaluit. QCFC works in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC). The Country Food Access Assistant will assist, report to and take direction from the Country Food Access Coordinator to ensure food access programs continue. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe food environment in all food prep and storage spaces;
  • Assist with receiving, inventory-tracking, butchering, packing and distribution of country food as a part of QCFC food access programming;
  • Attend staff meetings, training and agency functions as required;
  • Adhere to an exemplary standard of professional behaviour and positive communication with staff, participants volunteers, and partners; and,
  • Uphold and advocate QCFC values in our community.

Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience with safe food handling or willingness to train for food safe handling procedures
  • Knowledge or experience with processing country foods in accordance to food safety recommendations
  • Knowledge or experience with hunting
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Inuktut is a strong asset

Compensation

  • $25.00 an hour

This role is flexible and may be developed with a candidate’s specific skill set in mind. Overtime and or flexible work hours may be required.
