Position Title: Country Food and Bulk Store Cashier

Location: Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre, Iqaluit, Nunavut

Position Type: Part-time

Reports To: Store Manager

Base salary: $25.00 an hour

QCFC is seeking two part-time Country Food and Bulk Store Cashiers for its facility in the heart of Iqaluit. In conformance with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants. Housing is not available.

QCFC is a registered charity that strives to strengthen health, belonging and food sovereignty in Iqaluit. QCFC works in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC). Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and provide excellent customer service
  • Maintain cashier duties and responsibilities include ringing up sales, bagging items, collecting payment, and giving appropriate change
  • Responsible for counting float at beginning of each shift
  • Maintain receipts, records, and withdrawals 
  • Re-stock, re-supply store items (dry, refrigerated and frozen food items)
  • Ensure clean and tidy space
  • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, community organizations, partners, funders, donors in the management and smooth operations of the store and includes for programming purposes (weekly country food boxes, Inuliqtait Food Box tool kit, country food market etc.
  • Serve as a representative for QCFC within the community
  • Uphold and advocate QCFC values in our community

Ideal Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in retail operations
  • Knowledge and experience in customer relations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
  • Flexible and adaptable to work in a dynamic environment and respond effectively to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to and understanding of Inuit culture
  • Knowledge of Inuktut is a strong asset

Compensation

  • $25.00 an hour
