Wanted: Deputy Executive Director.

Job Purpose

The Deputy Executive Director supports the Executive Director in overseeing operations at Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre (QCFC). This role ensures organizational continuity during the Executive Director’s absence and contributes to the long-term sustainability and development of the Centre.

The Deputy Executive Director collaborates with other senior staff to deliver on QCFC’s mission of strengthening health, belonging, and food sovereignty through community and tradition-based approaches.

Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Operations

● Assist in implementing QCFC’s strategic plan and annual budget

● Support grant writing, donor communications, and fundraising tracking

● Monitor financial activities in collaboration with the Finance Team

● Prepare reports and updates for the Board of Directors as required

● Coordinate with contractors for facility maintenance

Staffing and Human Resources

● Support staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation

● Ensure workplace policies and procedures are followed

● Liaise with Finance to ensure timely staff and supplier payments

Program Support and Community Relations

● Collaborate with Program Director and staff on program planning and evaluation

● Help develop community-based programming aligned with QCFC’s values

● Maintain relationships with community partners, service providers, and networks

● Represent QCFC in media or public engagements as needed

● Contribute to external consultations, advisory groups, and relevant advocacy work

Perform additional related duties as needed.

Qualifications

● Minimum 1 year of experience in a leadership role, preferably in non-profits, food security, health, or social services

● Experience with grant writing and donor relations

● Familiarity with budgeting and financial oversight

● Strong background in staff supervision and policy adherence

● Post-secondary education in management, public administration, or a related field is an asset

● Knowledge of the issues related to QCFC’s mandate

● Proven track record of strong, compassionate leadership

● Exceptional ability to foster a collaborative culture with leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors

● Strong writing and communication skills 

● Proven ability to plan, prioritize, implement, oversee, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

● Proficiency in Google Suite, and ability to work with various software (experience with Keela and NetSuite is an asset)

● Experience living and working in Nunavut is a strong asset

● Fluency in Inuktitut is a strong asset

● Experience working in the food services industry is an asset

● Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset

● Other lived experiences, education, and skills will be considered in lieu of formal education and related work experience

A vulnerable sector check and positive references may be requested. In conformance with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants.

Working Conditions

● 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day

● 30 days annual leave per year, 5 days cultural leave, and 12 days of sick leave per year

● Ability to work evenings and weekends as required

● Ability to travel as required

● May include evening or weekend hours during events or peak periods

● Subject to high pace and multitasking demands

● $120,000 to $140,000 per year

● Paid Health and Dental Benefits, up to 6% RRSP matching, $500 annual wellness allowance
