The Qajuqturvik Food Centre (QFC) seeks a Training Coordinator (TC) for its facility in the heart of Iqaluit. This is a full-time position.
The QFC is a registered charity that conducts varied programming with the aim of addressing the causes and effects of food insecurity on Iqalummiut and the community of Iqaluit as a whole. The QFC works in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) and is set to become a partner site this year. For more information, visit qajuqturvik.ca or cfccanada.ca
The TC ensures the continued implementation and evaluation of our pre-employment culinary skills training program. As such, in coordination with the Community Chef and other staff, the TC is responsible for:
- developing curricula, schedules, outlines and educational materials;
- coordinating staff, volunteers and other community partners involved in training;
- engaging in community outreach to identify potential participants, volunteers and partner organizations;
- liaising with community employers and providing support, referrals and resources;
- preparing and serving community meals in coordination with staff and volunteers;
- evaluating programs and preparing reports; and
- serving as a representative for QFC within the community.
Other duties will be assigned by the ED as the mission and scope of the QFC continues to evolve. Travel may be required, as well as an ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment. Some overtime may be requested. Work is indoors (office/kitchen), in an administrative/supervisory role, and requires an ability to manage multiple tasks, and respond to varying and sometimes competing stakeholder interests. The position requires the ability to use discretion and sensitivity and work in a confidential manner.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following:
- relevant formal education or equivalent professional experience in food services, education, social services, community development, or program development;
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- experience directing and supporting a diverse team to accomplish a wide range of tasks;
- experience/knowledge/interest in working in low-income, marginalized communities facing food insecurity and in Northern Canada (in particular Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut or Inuvialuit);
- the ability to demonstrate empathy, openness, flexibility and creativity when working with the general public and within an organization;
- experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution; and
- formal or informal counseling experience.
This position is subject to a criminal record check, a child abuse registry check and proof of education and stated credentials. Candidates must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Iqaluit. In line with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants. Fluency in Inuktut is an asset. Annual salary is $85,000.
To apply, please submit a letter and resume to email@example.com. Please do not hesitate to inquire in advance if you have any questions or concerns about the position. Only those candidates being considered will be contacted.
