The Qajuqturvik Food Centre (QFC) seeks a Programming Coordinator (PC) for its facility in the heart of Iqaluit. This is a full-time, one-year position to be renewed if funding permits. The QFC is a registered charity that conducts varied programming with the aim of addressing the causes and effects of food insecurity on Iqalummiut and the community of Iqaluit as a whole.
The Programming Coordinator is the principal activities manager of the QFC, ensuring operations, programming and mandate are properly implemented. As such, with the support of the Executive Director, the PC is responsible for:
- developing, implementing and maintaining programming that is in line with QFC’s mandate and vision and meets goals and budgetary limitations;
- researching, developing and implementing policies, procedures and operational plans to address issues surrounding food insecurity;
- producing reports, newsletters and other communications with funders, donors and the public;
- determining and maintaining staffing and volunteering requirements;
- serving as a liaison between members of the public and support services available in the community; and
- serving as a representative for QFC within the community.
Other duties will be assigned by the ED as the mission and scope of the QFC continues to evolve. Travel may be required, as well as an ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment. Some overtime is necessary. Work is indoors (office/kitchen), in an administrative/supervisory role, and requires an ability to manage multiple tasks, and respond to varying and sometimes competing stakeholder interests. Discretion is needed when dealing with sensitive and traumatic personal issues. Physical fatigue could be a consequence of mental exertion.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following:
- undergraduate degree or equivalent experience;
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and extensive writing experience;
- experience directing a diverse team to accomplish a wide range of tasks;
- experience/knowledge/interest in working in low-income, marginalized communities facing food insecurity and in Northern Canada (in particular Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut or Inuvialuit);
- the ability to demonstrate compassion, openness, flexibility and creativity when working with the general public and within an organization; and
- experience working in the community development or social service sector.
This position is subject to a criminal record check, a child abuse registry check and proof of education and stated credentials. Candidates must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Iqaluit. In line with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants. Fluency in Inuktut is an asset. Salary is negotiable, based on experience and qualifications.
To apply, please submit a letter and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please do not hesitate to inquire in advance if you have any questions or concerns about the position. Only those candidates being considered will be contacted.
